Question of the day
How can I successfully clip the nails of the boy who screams and flinches whenever I touch his nails?
...just a slight bit of drama this morning.

I have a daughter diagnosed with PDD-NOS which whom i've had the same problem for years. She would scream and pull back and hit and bite whenever i approached her nails. I believe its a sensory thing for her, as well as a fear of being cut.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing i've had work, is just to do it! Hold her firmly, leverage myself best to keep her steady, talk her though it, have the utmost patience and calmness in my voice, and usually have the tv going to distract her.
Shes 9 now, and still pulls away, still kicks once in a while when i do her toes, and still tries to pinch, hit and even bite, but its much less so now then it used to be, and continues to improve.
Thank you so kindly for the comment. I pretty much do just have to go for it...as always I was hoping for the magic fairy dust that would just make it better! Who sells that and where can we buy it?!
